Acute or chronic back pain is more or less severe pain in the area of the back, regardless of its cause.

Known under the diagnoses lumbalgia, lumbago or lumbar spine syndrome (pain in the area of the lumbar spine), dorsalgia or thoracic spine syndrome (discomfort in the area of the thoracic spine) or under cervicalgia, cervical syndrome, CVS (pain in the area of the cervical spine).

Low back pain is one of the most common complaints in Austria. This is defined as pain in the area of the lower back between the lumbar spine and the sacrum as well as the illiosacral joints.
Shoulder-arm syndrome, also called cervicobrachialgia, is pain that originates in the cervical spine and radiates into the arm and/or head. There may also be limited mobility of the cervical spine. Headaches, neck pain and restricted movement are often accompanying complaints.
Disc prolapse is a disease of the spine in which parts of the disc protrude into the spinal canal - the space where the spinal cord is located. The fibrocartilage ring of the disc is completely or partially torn through. The cause is often overloading of the intervertebral discs.
Manifest osteoporosis is the systemic skeletal disease with decreased bone mass and disruption of bone tissue microarchitecture. This resulted in a risk of bone fragility and an increasing risk of fracture.
Osteoarthritis is the most common chronic joint disease worldwide. The disease is characterized by progressive cartilage loss. Osteoarthritis is best described as a disturbance of the balance between degradation and build-up processes within the joint cartilage. Those affected suffer from pain that severely impairs functionality and the ability to work.

Fibromyalgia is a chronic pain disorder. Characterized by almost unbearable pain, this diagnosis usually affects several areas of the body at once. Any effort will quickly tire - everything gradually becomes more and more difficult. The pain itself is described as "burning" in the muscles, plus an extreme sensation of cold.
Degenerative spinal diseases, also known as wear-related back disorders, include several clinical pictures that can occur in isolation or together. The main diseases include spinal stenosis, arthrosis of the small vertebral joints = facet syndrome (spondylarthrosis), and wear of the intervertebral discs and vertebral bodies (osteochondrosis).
Compared to disc prolapse, in disc protrusion the fibrous ring of the disc bulges in the direction of the spinal canal. Protrusion can be described as incomplete prolapse or as a precursor of disc herniation.
