The NUHR Medical Check – preventive medical check-up

In our fast-paced world, the most important things are often neglected: ourselves, our bodies and our own health!
Whether mental strain, stress, an unhealthy diet or lack of exercise – all of these factors can lead to illness over a longer period of time.
To prevent this from happening, it is important to recognize these risk factors early on and counteract them.
We support you in this!

The health check-up, also known as a preventive medical check-up, is an important annual check-up to monitor a person’s general health.
In Austria, people over the age of 18 can benefit from this examination, which serves to identify potential health risks at an early stage and initiate preventive measures.

At NUHR, however, the medical check goes far beyond a conventional check-up.
Our NUHR Medical Check includes no fewer than five specialist medical assessments with corresponding findings as well as supplementary examinations ranging from psychological to sports science assessments.

At the NUHR Medical Center in Lower Austria, the focus is on you as a person with all your individual needs.
Our team is committed to supporting your health in the best possible way, and you will feel this in every step of your examination and treatment.
We do everything we can to give you a comprehensive picture of your health and provide you with the best possible care.

What is done during the health check?

The health check-up, also known as a preventive check-up, is an annual health check aimed at identifying potential health risks and detecting illnesses at an early stage.
It is crucial for maintaining good health and tackling potential problems in good time.
In Austria, this check-up is available once a year from the age of 18 for everyone resident in the country.

During the health check-up, various comprehensive examinations are carried out to provide a holistic picture of the individual’s health.
These include determining the body mass index (BMI), measuring blood pressure and extensive blood and urine analyses.
These analyses help to identify risk factors for various diseases such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes and kidney problems at an early stage.

Depending on age, gender and individual risk factors, additional examinations may also be carried out during the health check-up.
This may include the examination of certain organ systems, such as the cardiovascular system, the lungs or the skin.
In addition, special tests such as a vision and hearing test and an assessment of mental well-being may also be part of the examination.

The health check-up therefore offers an important opportunity to proactively monitor your own health and take measures to improve your quality of life.
By detecting health problems at an early stage, prevention and treatment measures can be taken in good time to reduce the risk of illness and promote better health and quality of life.

What is done during a health check at the GP?

During a health check at the GP, the preventive check-up is usually carried out in two appointments.
At the first appointment, blood is taken and a urine sample is taken, which is then analyzed in the laboratory.
At the second appointment, the other tests are carried out and your results are discussed.
In the case of an examination at a health center, all examinations are usually carried out at one appointment.

However, the same steps and examinations are carried out regardless of the location of the examination.
First, your medical history is taken using a questionnaire, the medical history form.
This is followed by a holistic examination to detect possible diseases such as cardiovascular diseases, metabolic diseases, cancers, addictions, periodontal diseases and age-related diseases at an early stage.
This includes measuring your blood pressure and weight, examining your skin and oral cavity and analyzing blood and urine samples in the laboratory.

At the end of the examinations, your findings will be discussed with you and, if necessary, you will be given advice on how to lead a healthier lifestyle.
If necessary, you will be referred to a specialist for further examinations or treatment.

What is a complete health check?

A complete health check, such as the NUHR Medical Check, offers far more than a conventional check-up.
It comprises a total of five specialist medical assessments, which provide detailed findings and enable a comprehensive view of your health.
The focus is on you as a person, with all your individual needs.
At the NUHR Medical Center in Lower Austria, your health is treated with the highest priority, and you will feel it.

The specialist medical assessments in the NUHR Medical Check include:

  • A physical-orthopaedic examination
  • A neurological assessment including carotid sonography
  • A gastroenterological assessment including abdominal sonography and hemoccult or uricult evaluation
  • An internal cardiology assessment including cardiac ultrasound, 12-lead ECG, echocardiography and exercise ergometry
  • A final examination with a summary and interpretation of the findings

In addition to the specialist medical assessments, supplementary examinations are carried out:

  • A psychological assessment
  • A dietary assessment including BIA measurement
  • Physiotherapy that includes ergonomic training, manual examination and joint and muscle function tests
  • A sports science assessment with the creation of an individual training plan
  • A blood test to further analyze your health

Therapies are also offered as part of the NUHR Medical Check:

  • Two sessions of arsonvalization according to Dr. Otto Nuhr
  • A 40-minute session of manual regulation therapy according to Dr. Nuhr

Can I drink something before the blood sample is taken?

For certain tests, it is necessary for the patient to be fasting, for example to determine the blood sugar level.
In this case, fasting does not mean that you have to go hungry.
It is simply necessary not to eat anything from 8 p.m. the evening before.
On the morning of the blood test, however, it is permitted to drink small amounts of water or unsweetened tea.

What do I need to present/bring with me to the first examination?

You should definitely bring your e-card with you to this appointment, as this is required for billing and documentation purposes.
It is also advisable to have a list of the medication you regularly take with you to give our doctors a comprehensive overview of your health situation.

It can also be helpful to bring old medical reports or doctor’s letters from previous check-ups.
These documents help to obtain information about your medical history and to better understand possible risk factors or previous health problems.

At what age do health checks make sense?

Health checks are useful from the age of 18 and are generally recommended once a year.

What is the difference between a preventive check-up and a healthy check-up?
Do I need both?

A preventive medical check-up and a health check-up are often used interchangeably, but have different focuses and target groups.

Screening focuses on the early detection of diseases in people who are already showing symptoms or have an increased risk of certain diseases.
They are usually carried out on the basis of symptoms or known risk factors to identify pre-existing diseases or health problems.

In contrast, a health check-up is aimed at healthy people without acute symptoms.
Their aim is to check the current state of health and identify potential risk factors at an early stage in order to initiate preventive measures.
These examinations are carried out routinely to prevent illness.

Whether you need both examinations depends on your individual situation.

How much does a health check-up cost?

The costs for a medical check at NUHR, including a preventive stay over 3 nights and 4 days (Thursday to Sunday) with full board, start from € 2,800.
This price includes accommodation in a standard room (single occupancy) with full board, depending on the room category, as well as medical examinations and therapies.

As a rule, the costs of laboratory tests are covered by Austrian health insurance companies and charged directly.
Patients from abroad have the option of receiving a corresponding individual offer.

Please note that costs may vary depending on individual requirements and additional services.
Please contact us for a detailed quote and further information on the services included.

Who is entitled to a free health check-up?

Regardless of whether you have statutory health insurance or not, you can take advantage of this offer.
This means that people without health insurance are also entitled to the health check.
It is an opportunity for every adult to have their state of health checked and to identify potential health risks at an early stage.

Does health insurance cover the costs of a health check-up?

The costs for the health check-up are covered by the Austrian social insurance.
It is a free service that is financed by the health insurance company.
