What is medical movement training?

Medical movement training is much more than just sport. It is a structured, therapeutically guided form of physical activity that is individually tailored to your complaints and goals. The aim is to specifically influence your strength, endurance, flexibility, coordination and posture and thus your overall health.

At the Nuhr Medical Center, training is an integral part of the Nuhr Med Concept. It is carried out under professional guidance and follows a clear plan: regular, individually adapted and medically sound.

What are the benefits of exercise therapy?

Exercise training has a positive effect on the entire body, not only on muscles and joints, but also on the metabolism, cardiovascular system and psyche. Regular physical activity can noticeably improve the quality of life and help stabilize the state of health, especially in the case of chronic illnesses.

Positive effects on muscles and joints

Targeted training strengthens the muscles, improves mobility and supports joint function. This is particularly helpful for:

  • Back pain, joint pain and osteoarthritis
  • Reconstruction and stabilization after operations or injuries, such as to the knee or shoulder

When is movement training used?

Medical movement training is a component of many therapy and rehabilitation concepts. It is used whenever targeted physical activity can help to alleviate symptoms, restore functions or reduce health risks.

At the Nuhr Medical Center, our specialist exercise therapists work with our doctors to develop an individually tailored training program – tailored to your diagnosis, your physical condition and your personal goals. Whether as part of an inpatient rehabilitation stay or outpatient therapy, the exercises are professionally instructed, regularly adapted and closely supervised.

Typical areas of application for movement training:

  • Orthopaedic complaints such as back pain, hip or knee pain, shoulder problems or poor posture
  • Rehabilitation after surgery, such as after a joint replacement or intervertebral disc surgery
  • Cardiovascular diseases such as high blood pressure, coronary heart disease or after a heart attack
  • Metabolic diseases, e.g. diabetes mellitus, insulin resistance or overweight (obesity)
  • Chronic respiratory diseases such as COPD, asthma or impaired lung function
  • Psychosomatic complaints, such as stress, chronic exhaustion, sleep problems or depressive moods

Exercise training can also be a valuable support for prevention, i.e. to avoid complaints, e.g. in the case of work-related poor posture, lack of exercise or family history.

Are there any contraindications for exercise therapy?

In the vast majority of cases, exercise training is very well tolerated and safe, especially under medical supervision. Nevertheless, there are situations in which certain exercises should be adapted or temporarily avoided.

Possible contraindications or restrictions can be:

  • Acute inflammation or infections, e.g. fever or flu-like infections
  • Fresh injuries or operations where weight bearing is not yet permitted
  • Severe cardiac arrhythmia or untreated heart failure
  • Severe neurological diseases with movement restrictions or risk of falling
  • Acute pain attacks or inflammatory rheumatic processes in the active phase

How does movement training work?

Your exercise training at the Nuhr Medical Center always begins with a thorough initial medical examination. We take the time to assess your symptoms, any pre-existing conditions, your current physical capacity and your personal goals. Because only when we know where you stand and what you want to achieve can we design a training program that really suits you.

On this basis, an individual training concept is developed together with our movement therapists. It takes into account all the important elements: strength, endurance, flexibility, coordination and body awareness. Depending on what is most important to you, we set specific priorities: be it to relieve back pain, to recover after an operation or to improve general fitness.

The training itself takes place either in individual sessions or in small groups. In both cases, you will be accompanied by our experienced therapists. They will show you the exercises, make sure they are performed correctly and continually adapt the program to your progress. The focus is not on performance or speed, but on mindful, targeted movement at your own pace.

In addition to active movement training, further therapeutic measures can be integrated into your personal treatment program as required. These include heat applications, medical healing massages, acupuncture, electrotherapy and manual techniques. These aim to alleviate pain, relieve tension, stimulate the metabolism or specifically support regeneration.

It is particularly important to us that you are able to integrate what you have learned into your everyday life in the long term. You will therefore receive practical exercises, tips and strategies on how you can continue to exercise independently after your stay or outpatient therapy, whether at home, at work or in your free time. In this way, exercise will become an integral part of your life and an effective key to greater health, stability and enjoyment of life.

What needs to be considered after exercise therapy?

After exercise training, it is important to give the body enough time to regenerate. A short resting phase, consciously feeling your way back or light stretching exercises can help to deepen the effect of the training and prevent possible muscle tension.

Make sure you drink enough to restore your fluid and mineral balance, especially if you have worked up a sweat. Immediately after the therapy, you should avoid heavy physical exertion or intensive sporting activities if possible so that your muscles, joints and circulation can recover optimally.

Occasionally, you may experience slight muscle soreness after the first few sessions, especially if certain muscle groups have been used for the first time. This is completely normal and a sign that the body is reacting to the training. However, if you experience persistent pain, dizziness or unusual symptoms, please talk to us.

In the long term, it is particularly important to integrate what you have learned into your everyday life. Even small regular exercise sessions, such as a short walk, conscious posture at work or targeted exercises at home, can help to consolidate the progress you have made.
