6500 m2 to pause and recharge your batteries
Pure air flows into your lungs.
Your feet tread on velvety moss.
The sun shimmers through the thicket.
And it smells of earth and new beginnings.
This is exactly the scenery that awaits therapy and hotel guests at the NUHR MedicalCenter.
A sea of green tones stretches over an area of 6,500 m2.
Our NUHR Forest.
It is a haven for body and soul.
A new favorite place.
And the best place for our forest therapy.
The forest as a healing experience
With NUHR forest therapy, you will experience the health-promoting aspects of the forest on body and mind, which numerous studies have proven, at first hand.
The forest is used as a healing experience.
Our experts not only motivate you to engage in physical activities, but also promote multi-sensory experiences.
During a stay in the NUHR Forest, you as a person are thus addressed with all your senses.
In addition, the forest climate has many positive aspects in general:
- The clean air and fewer pollutants relieve the respiratory tract and skin and have a positive effect on the heart and blood vessels.
- The high humidity is good for the airways.
- Low air temperatures increase physical performance and harden the body.
- Special lighting conditions can improve the mood and convey a sense of security.
- Plants, trees, wood, soil, the forest floor and the overall aesthetics of the forest have a positive effect on the psyche.

Forest therapy in Lower Austria
Forest therapy with us in Lower Austria is therefore much more than conventional forest bathing.
It can complement traditional, active or verbal forms of therapy and strengthen health.
In principle, it is recommended for everyone – but people benefit particularly …
- with mental and psychosomatic illnesses
- in rehabilitation, e.g. after accidents or orthopaedic surgery
- with chronic pain
- Late effects of neurological diseases
Forest therapy, and in particular active outdoor exercise, is also suitable for general preventative health care.
It can help to counteract poor posture and back problems, as well as other potential risk factors such as obesity, cardiovascular problems, high blood pressure, etc.
Special exercises or mindfulness training can also help people to reconnect with nature and therefore with themselves.
Alienation from nature and the loss of a universal sense of togetherness can also put a strain on people or make them ill.
For children and young people in difficult situations or with behavioral problems, forest therapy can help them to cope and serve an educational purpose.
At the same time, it can also be used preventively to train individual movement sequences and prevent postural damage and mental or physical illnesses.
It also helps to discover the joy of movement in the great outdoors.
Forest for body and soul
The NUHR forest in Senftenberg in Lower Austria is located on a south-facing slope that has been used for forestry for decades.
Extensive areas border the woodland to the north and east, while terraces from the former vineyards can still be seen to the west.
The forest area, which covers 6500 m2 in Senftenberg, is freely accessible from April to October and was developed in close cooperation with the market town of Senftenberg.
The NUHR Forest can therefore be used by therapy and hotel guests as well as by the local population and visitors to Senftenberg.
Various paths and stations have been set up for the NUHR Forest Therapy so that therapy and hotel guests can enjoy a longer stay and feel the positive effects in the long term.

These include
- Main path: The main path running parallel to the slope includes a sensory path, stones, balance sticks and other elements that train the sense of balance and sensory perception.
- Stepped path: Various steps are part of this path, which is designed to improve step resistance.
- Rest area: The rest area is located at the highest point of the NUHR forest.
The secluded location and a hammock invite you to pause for a moment. - Strength station: Various devices can be used at the strength station to strengthen the muscles.
- Viewing platform: Located on the edge of the forest, therapy and hotel guests have an optimal view of the surrounding forest landscape and the Senftenberg ruins from the viewing platform.
- Orchard: Various native trees and shrubs are part of the orchard, which imparts knowledge about healthy nutrition and local habitats.

The Austrian Waldviertel is the perfect place for forest therapy
In Japan and South Korea, the positive effects of the forest have long been appreciated – “Shinrin-yoku”, forest bathing, has a long tradition there.
But the Lower Austrian Waldviertel region is also ideal for forest therapies.
Here, the forest has not only always been a defining element and identifying feature, but also gives the region its name.
After all, it is one of the most important resources and has a high ecological and economic value.
The forest therefore plays a key role and also has great health-promoting potential, which we make use of in Senftenberg.
Our NUHR Forest not only optimally complements the NUHR Medical Center, but also integrates therapeutic measures into the essential forest ecosystem.
Benefit from NUHR forest therapy and recharge your batteries!
